My favorite white paint color

Home52 recently asked me and 14 other interior designers to share the white paint colors we swear by. My answer might surprise you.

It’s actually the unmixed paint! There are a lot of fancy names for this that all achieve the same result; a crisp white paint with no undertones. If this is what you are looking for, save yourself the trouble of having the paint mixed (some of these “color’s by paint brands don’t even require mixing anyway) and purchase a Base A paint and primer in one. I use this when I want to contrast a darker color or highlight architectural detail that already has depth. I’ve used it here on my peninsula in my rental kitchen.

If I want to create depth, a few of my other favorite whites are:

Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore- this one has a few drops of yellow in it so makes it just slightly warmer than pure white. This one goes well with brass hardware. I’ve used this one on my cabinet doors and you can see the difference from the two whites is very subtle.

Simple white by Benjamin Moore - This one goes with almost any palette. If you are paint-confused,, this is the white for you.

Gray Cloud and Ice Cube Silver by Benjamin Moore - These are technically light grays but can read white. Use these if you want to create the clean look of a white, without any sneaky yellow or pink undertones. Ice cube silver having just a tinge more green, these two are very similar…
