Get in My House: Organic Wall Sculptures

I have been so captivated by sculptural, wall-art lately. Specifically, collections of organic, Artisan objects.

Why you need these in your home ( a complete, detailed analysis 🤓):

  1. It’s easier than a gallery wall, ya’ll. Yes, you coooould spend hours selecting photos and art, matting, framing, and then obsessing over your gallery wall spacing (if this is your thing, see my tutorial here). OR you can just get some sculptural wall art! 🙌 They are great for extra large rooms where the task to fill wall space can be really be overwhelming, not to mention visually overstimulating. Framed artwork is typically hung at eye level, allowing the viewer to see the subject. With sculptural wall art, you don’t really need to follow those rules, as these bad boys are best admired from a distance. So, in areas with high ceilings, where a picture gallery would be a time consuming, daunting task (for many), these may be just the ticket to keep your sanity. With a collection of sculptural pieces, you almost can’t mess up the placement (more on how to easily install them below).

2. It breaks up right angles. In western interiors, we are so used to seeing boxy rooms, filled with boxy furnishings. Anytime you put a curved or irregularly-shaped object in a room, like this turquoise wall set, it’s like a treat for your eyes!

3. They are brilliant deceivers. For rooms with shorter ceilings, it can draw the eye up the wall, giving the illusion of more height. Likewise, in a small room, trailing some of the objects from one wall to the next, confuses the delineation between the two walls. And it just keeps things so interesting! See how I did something similar in this room.

And I love the way white wall sculptures look against a saturated color, like this rose…

4. They can be great light reflectors. Especially above a tall mantel that has a dropped ceiling. I see this time and time again where a standard mirror ends up reflecting the ceiling. Not cute (especially if you have a popcorn ceiling or something you don’t wish to highlight). Enter mercury glass drops. These gorgeous wall babbles are a nice break from the popular, Federal convex mirror (still love ya, btw), but they are even better for reflecting light in an area where you don’t necessarily need to see a particular reflection (i.e. your face or the room).

5. They add texture. If your decor is mostly neutral, texture is your friend. And while people usually lean on rugs and throw pillows to do the heavy lifting in this department, adding a 3 dimensional focal point on the wall can add so much depth where color is lacking.

6. They add color. Speaking of, please do add some color, like these matte glass, handmade wall pebbles. Love these as a pop of color for a white wall.

7. They bring the outdoors in. Their organic shape naturally gives a nod to the outdoors, but you can also find some more deliberately outdoorsy varieties, like these lovely green “stones” There are so many gorgeous options in natural hues that will allow you to dip your toes in the color-waters. In a natural color, like these turquoise greens, it is a sure win, no matter the palette, but they especially looks amazing against shades of ecru.

8. They add depth and dimension, particularly when used in a room lacking architectural details. These wall sculptures can do wonders at drawing the focus to the back of a room, invoking a curiosity for the viewer. Are those coming out of the wall? How did they get there?

How to arrange 3D art on your wall:

As I mentioned previously, you don’t need to obsess over these like you would a picture gallery. Whew! You want it to feel very “unplanned”. Don’t feel like you need to space them all evenly. Maybe start them off in a cluster and let them trail up the wall. Maybe even onto another wall or the ceiling! Have fun with it.

How to install them:

Many of these come with wall mounting holes on the back, but my preferred way to install them is with this no-drill picture hanger as it allows you to manipulate the orientation to custom fit your space!

Until next time…
