Patty O's of Little Washington Virginia
My family treated me to Mother’s day brunch at Patty' O’s cafe in Little Washington, VA. The restaurant is a former gas station, but you would never know it. Owned by Chef Patrick O’Connell - proprietor of the Inn at Little Washington (just across the street) he has created a charming, cozy café. One that has all the comforts of home, with the caliber of food you would expect from a 3 Michelin star chef.
Upon entering the café, you will notice lush landscaping with fresh, seasonal blooms of the moment. Tiffany blue paint and cabana striped awnings provide shade to a lively bluegrass ensemble that plays every Sunday afternoon. With the French doors open, the music can be heard both inside and outside the restaurant.
After a warm welcome from the hostess, I made my way to the bar swooning over the burl wood, tin tiled ceiling and penny tile floor along the way.
The bartender recommended the Cavendish old fashioned, with notes of raisin, orange and honey, to sip while I waited for our table.
Chef Patrick is not only a master, self-taught chef, but has a keen eye for interiors, with impeccable taste in styling. Patty O’s has a European-country flair and seamlessly manages to incorporate rustic touches in a way that feels so elevated.
The walls were awash in a lovely weathered jade hue that revealed it’s blue undertones as the lighting dimmed.
The beyond-gorgeous powder room was so unexpected. I didn’t want to leave. So much eye candy to chew on in here.
Southern hospitality exudes as the room seems to anticipate the needs of the guest, down to the smallest detail.
In the adjacent dining room, an oversized mirror makes a dramatic focal point, reflecting a giant palm that takes center stage in the room.
A stone fireplace adorned with pewter dishes and logs waiting for a fire remind you you are not at home, but perhaps the most charming place, in an far off English village…
Our table was a sweet little banquet in the corner with comfortable leather and throw pillows you could sink into. It was giving cozy, home-vibes all the way.
While dining, guests can feast their eyes on stunning, one-of-a-kind oil paintings and majolicas
Blue stemmed glasses and French striped linens await eager guests.
In true form, we ate our food before I remembered to photograph it (this is how you know it’s food worth eating). My favorite dish was the smoked salmon ribbons with celery heart remoulade and caraway flatbread.
Before you leave, stop into the (attached) bakery just around the corner. You will find a delicious assortment of French pastries by the highest caliber of bakers this region has to offer. I highly recommend the chocolate croissant and ginger snap latte!
Ever since our visit, I have been dreaming up ways to incorporate the Patty O’s aesthetic at home. So, I’ve scoured my bank of design resources and collecting a little assortment to share with you!
