Gone are the days of the standard, big-box-store range hood! Whew, for that we can all be grateful, right?

From covers, to stand-alone hoods, I’m sharing 10 unique ideas for your next kitchen remodel.
14 Unique Range Hood Ideas
Working with a designer and contractor to create a custom cover, fabricated from wood, metal, or even plaster, can give you the opportunity to have something truly special.
That little extra trim detail makes this boxy range hood feel like it was unearthed from a centuries-year old home.
A metal hood is a gorgeous way to add a contrasting metallic to your kitchen. These can be quite pricey, but are heirloom quality pieces, made to last.
Okay, this one really threw me. Is that clay? Nope, it’s Molded plaster. Apparently, you can do that too! Imagine the possibilities? This almost reminds me of an old pizza oven. I dig it.
2. A range can be a great opportunity to add a pop of color in an otherwise, neutral kitchen. And how good is this arch shape?
Gosh, this color has me so spell bound…
3. Situating the range in a corner is both unique AND can solve the dilemma of where do we put the range in a kitchen with many windows. Plus, it is going to make for a sexy, curved hood!
4. A tambour covered hood adds warmth and a midcentury feel to a white kitchen.
5. Technically a built-in (which we are seeing play on repeat so much these days), this hood cover boosts rounded edges which makes it feel softer, and balances all the right angles we see in a modern kitchen.
6. Although we’ve seen a rise in brass range hoods in the past 5 years, most folks are still hesitant to use them in their kitchen. I think there is a fear they will be too flashy, but in a raw brass, matte finish they feel less regal. This is a finish that will instantly add warmth and character to a even the whitest of kitchens. And the folks avoiding brass in their home, for fear it will soon be out of trend, can keep waiting, because this is a material that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Here in polished brass, and as you can see, it doesn’t feel tacky at all. It’s stunning! It just goes to show, context is everything for pulling off polished brass in a kitchen.
7. A tiled range hood can either blend into a matching backsplash, or stand out, like as is the case in this kitchen. For folks who aren’t afraid of a little pattern and color mixing, this can be a great choice.
8. A range hood cover that is more architectural adds an impressive, custom detail to a kitchen. And it can really do the job of filling out a large wall. Is that a plant shelf or a range exhaust fan? It’s both!
9. A range hood with exposed ducting, is not only a show-stopper, it’s functional, and will save you a ton of money if you do not already have ducting installed in the wall. No more fans circulating smoke around the room. Instead, the smoke is pulled outdoors, in the most stylish way possible, no matter where your range is situated in the room. This is normally something you see in industrial kitchens, but as you can see here, it works beautifully with the victorian features of this kitchen. Also, note how the slightly asymmetric hood balances the ducting on the left. It’s just so cool!
10. A cylindrical range hood is a great choice if you are wanting to show-off a tiled backsplash. It’s sleek and feels super modern - perfect for the minimalist. This is also a great choice for a kitchen island range as it will not obstruct OR distract the view from either direction.
